This follows the rules of the Monster Hunter RP topic I posted. Create a character for it beforehand. Normal rules apply, but seriously, no godmodding. Your characters are supposed to be at a disadvantage.
With that said, though, have fun!
----------------------------------------
Ryven slammed his hand down on the table in the Hunters' Guild hall. He had just come back from an unsuccessful hunt of a Congalala.
"A f***ing Congalala. I could have killed it myself, but those idiots just got in my way and got themselves nearly killed." He looked to his right to see his "comrades" being wheeled away by Felyne medics. Once his team had gotten knocked out, he had run away back to the waiting airship. He had to explain the dismal failure to the Guild Superior - not the Master, for she was in Horomae, the largest city in the world.
Ryven made his way over to a restaurant and fished around in his zenny pouch, coming up with a 100z note and handing it to the Felyne chef for a hot meal. He wasn't expecting much for 100z, but something was better than nothing, and he hadn't carved any meat from dead lesser monsters - he had been running too fast.
Soon, he was served with some rice balls and a bowl of steaming noodle soup, along with a cup of tea. He began to dig in, not noticing any others...

"Hello?" spoke a green-haired, deep blue-eyed girl wearing very foreign clothing; a sort of kimono, kunoichi outfit that came down to the beginning of her leg, faintly showing off an odd mark on the side of her hip. Over that, she wore various straps and protectors that wouldn't do much for protection, but would assist in quick movement. On a large black sash, she carried what looked to be 2 simple fans. Fishnet covered her shoulders and legs, as he walked towards Ryven, "Excuse me..." she started, "I'm new here. Masuyo. Good to meet you... uhm... I'm utterly lost..." she sighed, "I hate asking around for things, but I was just sort of... left here..." she placed her hand on her hip and sighed, "This must be the restaurant... someone told me that I'd find information here..."

Ryven finished his meal, looking at her. "Name's Ryven. I just got back from an unsuccessful hunt so excuse me." He made to leave before nearly walking into another hunter. "Excuse me." He made to leave before the older hunter grabbed his shoulder. "Listen here, hunter. You don't insult the great Ryuken."
"So you must be this 'great Ryuken'. Sorry, but I want to get back to my house."
"Pfft," Ryuken said. "Loser, coming back from a bad hunt I bet. What, couldn't take on a giaprey to save your life?"
"Do you see my weapons?" Ryven gestured to his weapon and shield. "I had these crafted out of monsters I killed on my own. These are pretty high-grade. Now for the final time, excuse me." He tried to shoulder his way past Ryuken but was pushed onto a chair near Masuyo. "A real hunter never retires. Go on, take another hunt. I want to make a bet. You kill or capture that monster and I'll give you 3000 zennies in addition to the reward already there. If you come back and it's still alive or uncaptured, you owe me 3000 zennies."
Ryven looked at him. "No way am I accepting your bet. However..." he walked out of the restaurant, calling out to Masuyo. "You. Follow me and we'll get you whatever information you need."

Masuyo looked to Ryuken, before following Ryven, "You seem like an insensitive prick..." she said, "But impressions are impressions. Tell you what, I'll take the bet and make you eat your words. I haven't got a single zenny on me at the moment, so if I lose, I'm outta luck." she snorted, looking into his eyes, her blue eyes seeming to burn with confidence, "I'll be outside, peasant." she snorted, walking outside to Ryven, "Just had to take care of something..." she mumbled to him, "I'm looking for information to a hunter that has been missing for a long time... He's..." she paused a moment, "He's a close friend of mine. Very close."

Ryven turned to look at her, softening for a moment; it reminded him of his lost sister when the Tigrex attacked Pokke. She hadn't died, or so he thought, for he had seen her running off with some of the other villagers during the attack. But he'd never heard from her since. No letters or anything. The village was rebuilt, but still she did not come back. He had met with some of the returning villagers and asked about her, but they had simply told him that she hadn't died, but moved on. After all, she was at the age when one could become a hunter. Press them though he might, they never said a single thing. So by coming to Shunjoki, he thought he might find some information, but he didn't.
After a while, he began to like the city life and made arrangements for himself to live there. He stayed in a small, two-room house; a bathroom and a living space. He was comfortable, and he made his living by hunting the ever-present infestation of smaller monsters.
He looked at Masuyo. "I overheard that you accepted his bet. It's against the law to kill another hunter, but if you failed to give him his zennies after a loss, you probably wouldn't be able to accept any hunts from the Guild again. And the fact of the matter is, you actually need zenny as a fee to accept quests in the first place. So you'd need to find someone to go with you and accept the quests on your part, which... well, you seem to have gravitated towards me so there's nothing I can do about that. I'm actually looking for someone too. My sister. Her name's Gwendolyn, Gwen for short. Gwen Torn." He sighed, running his hands through his sandy-blond hair. "Name's Ryven Torn. Anyway... I'm done for the day. Hunters can only accept quests once per day unless it's an emergency." He looked at her. "No money... where are you going to stay? Even in the Guild Hall there's a fee. You might as well go back to your home village and--how did you even get here in the first place with no money?"
He paused for a brief moment. "You do look a little like my sister, except for the hair." He noticed it was getting late. "It's getting late, Masuyo. I might be able to give you some fruit and vegetables at my house, and you can stay there, since you don't have anywhere else to go. I'll hire a couple of Felyne escorts to act as backup, and we can try to hunt the Congalala together. How does that sound? Be warned, though, that it's dangerous."

Masuyo nodded, "Thank you. And... about the zenny... I uhm..." she looked down, embarrassedly, "Searching for my friend kind of... came with the price of losing my money to a stray monster..." she sighed, "Stupid monsters... Anyway, it would be nice to stay at your house for a while... as well as the escort..." she looked around, "And... this Gwen girl..." she thought for a moment, "I'm sorry... I've never heard of her... But she seems like a nice person." she unfurled her fans, the Wolf Tessen, and began waving them in front of her face, "I may have just met you, but you're quite the gentleman..."

Once they reached Ryven's house, he lifted up the door flap and gestured her inside. Once they were both in, he lit a small fire in the center of the small room and started to rummage around in some cabinets for dried meat and fruits or vegetables. He found a few things and went over to the kitchen area of his house, which consisted of a small, single-pan stove. There were a few pots and pans nearby, along with a small pump sink.
He took a small pot and filled it with water and set it on the stove to boil. Once it was boiling, he went over to a cutting and carving table and sliced the cudgel onion up. Once that was done, he put the slices in the water along with some herbs. "This is just some simple onion soup. Should be done in a few minutes." He gestured to the sofa. "Go on, sit." He was being far friendlier towards Masuyo than was warranted, but part of him just really wanted to help her find her friend. Even if that meant she came along on his hunts. "So, about your money... I guess those thieving Melynxes stole it? Bastard pickpockets..."
(OOC: Melynxes are like Felynes, but they're enemies and not allies.)

"Later, Shepp!" One of Xander's teammates called from a little off the pathway. Xander was getting used to that nickname, but he still didn't want it shouted out in the middle of a crowded city path. Ugh. A successful hunt, at least. But that was to be expected. It was only a couple of Melynxes hanging around the forrest near the city, nothing more than common thieves. He'd helped his partners skinn the hide off of them to sell of as raw leather, and had been coming back from handing their galls to the guild as they'd asked. Why galls, he'd never know, but they did make good zenny pouches. Speaking of which, he pulled out the decorated pouch he'd found on one of them. Any zenny found was for keeps, after all. He hadn't opened it yet, mostly because it looked like it was owned by a girl, and he kinda felt bad. Absently, he hoped whoever had lost this to the Melynx was okay. He decided he wouldnt open it for now, and hung it on his belt next to his own pouch.
"I need to get something to eat.." He said to nobody in particular and walked into the same restaurant that Ryvan and Masayo had gone into before and handed the chef a 200z note, getting in return some Coxel legs and mashed potatoes with gravy and a hot cup of Coxel broth. Good. He had a runny nose to begin with as it was the changing of the seasons, so this would all go down nicely.
As he ate he overheard some people talking. "Did you hear about the bet that little kunoichi girl agreed to?" Said someone "for 3000 zenny, I'd take it too. Still just a Congalala." "Yeah but it takes a team of at LEAST three to take down one of those, normally."
Xander thought about it. Taking that kind of bet took a little balls, but that guy was right. 3000 zenny was almost two weeks of a full belly, five days maybe if you had to pay for lodging. It was a useful sum to have for a day's work. Absently he wished he could get in on that. Maybe he'd check in at the guild tomorrow and see who was taking it. After all, no mater who this girl was, she had to pay the guild fee for accepting the Congalala quest. Knowing this, he made the plan to go there first thing tomorrow and wait.
(OOC Coxel I'd imagine is like a chicken-type monster. About the size of a chicken-turkey hybrid and a bit more agressive than both)

Masuyo blinked, then cursed loudly, "Dammit! I knew I couldn't trust that accursed..." she sighed, angrily, "Nevermind, no use crying over spilled milk now..." she sat on the sofa, massaging her temples, before relaxing, taking a lounging position and sighing in relief, "Oh... this feels nice. Certainly does beat walking for hours... Or running, when confronted with a giant monster..." she shook her head, "Anyway... The friend I'm looking for. His name is Cobra and had gone missing for at least a few months now. Maybe a year. I haven't been keeping track... He's tall... about 6 foot... long blonde hair... light looking armor, for movement, mostly, and a great sword, whose name I can't remember..." she fanned herself, "We were friends and comrades since day one... and... truth be told... I really like him." she blushed, hiding her face behind her fan, "Ugh, why must I get so damn embarrassed even mentioning that?!" she shook her head, "Anyway... he went missing from my village... So I searched for him, only to find that there were deadly monsters out there that gave me a run for my life..." she shook her head, "After a few years in my village, I thought it was time to at least go somewhere that would help me brave the monsters, so I came here." she paused, "That's my story, anyway..."

Ryven handed a bowl of steaming hot soup to her. "There you go. It's not much, but cudgel onions are known for having a lot of flavor. That's the main ingredient in this soup."
He watched her eat for a little while, he taking off his armor in the meantime. He was slightly muscular, a build which came after a few years of hunting monsters and surviving. He had a short shirt and short pants on. "I'm going to go take a bath... oh yeah. It fades away after a while, but that Congalala has this one really gross attack... it can throw its s*** at you and that smell doesn't fade away for quite some time. In addition, you'd probably get knocked down by the sheer force. However, I have a few Deodorizers that release a puff of smoke that gets rid of the smell. Just keep that in mind." With that, he stepped into the bathroom, taking a short bath. While he bathed himself, he thought of his lost sister. That was probably just an excuse that the villagers made up... the Tigrex probably ate her. He sighed, hoping that Masuyo was making herself comfortable on his one sofa, right across from his bed.

Xander finished off his meal and went to the guild building to stay there. A fee to stay the night, as usual. He checked his zenny purse. He wasn't giving out a good 500z to stay on a smelly cot as refuge. Screw it, if he wanted any kind of comfort he'd go home to his little sheep farm. Five years ago a night outside of a building would have scared him into going back home and doing just that. Ha, guess he'd come pretty far. He sat up against the wall of the building and relaxed in the cold night air. Burrowing into his leather vest, he was glad that he'd had it lined with the wool on his last visit home. Other than that, his outfit wasn't much for warmth. A cloth shirt with frayed long sleeves, a leather vest from the skin of a bulfango from last year, loose cloth pants with some leather chaps hugging his shins, and a pair of supple leather hunting boots folded over the laces. It wasn't heavy or cumbersome, perfect to match his speed. The only things he carried with him were the two zenny purses on his belt, the dual swords hanging off the same sheith on the other side of his belt, and a single small knife-sharpener so that he could carry it more easily than a sharpening block. Dual swords took a lot of damage with how fast the hits were, and so they dulled more quickly than other weapons. Ah well, if he needed a real good repair on his weapons he could come back to the city.
Cuddling into his jacket, he fell asleep in the cold until daybreak, dreaming of his old life, before mum was sick, before he had to hunt, dreaming of the weak and happy self he used to be.

Masuyo had tentatively waved air in the soup to cool it off before sipping some up. She smiled slightly. The onions did add flavor to the soup. Putting the bowl down for a moment, she sighed, "If only it were easy way to get things done..." she laid back into the couch, "I only hope you're okay, Cobra."
She stood up, walking outside, basking in the moonlight for a moment, taking the soup bowl with her. Taking a few more sips of the soup, she looked around, "Funny, how calm it seems at night..." she muttered, suddenly noticing a boy sitting by the Guild building a little ways away. He was a good calling distance.. "Hey! If you stay out there, you might catch a cold!" she shouted.

Xander shrugged into his vest, his light sleep interrupted by the girl's call. "Hmm?" He said, popping his head out like a turtle and looking around. So he hadn't dreamt it, there was a girl's voice. He looked over at her. "Already got one, doll." He called back. It was true, his nose was runny and getting worse and he always did get colds or even the flu around this time of year. "Another night's not gonna do too much." He cuddled back into his vest. "Say, you wouldnt know who took that Congalala bet, would ya?" He asked

Ryven dried himself off and walked outside, shivering in the cold, focusing on Xander, hearing the conversation. "Well... what's your name, comrade? Anyway... Masuyo here took the bet. Why a Congalala and not a Giadrome I have no idea... but there wouldn't be any challenge in killing a Giadrome. Yeah, Masuyo here, who has no money, took the bet and now I have to pay for an expedition out to the jungle which will take hours to actually find it, and then kill it or trap it." He knew he was being bitter but he didn't actually care. He sighed. "Anyway... why were you wondering?"

Masuyo gave Ryven a pout, "I was gonna explain, Ryven..." she grumbled, before walking closer to Xander, "But that's what happened... the money thing, I lost my wallet to a damn Melynx or whatever..." she sighed angrily, still feeling cross about the situation.
